Your Labor and Delivery

In our Maternity Center you will enjoy the comfort and privacy of your own Labor / Delivery / Recovery room (LDR).

Our suites each have a private shower and bathroom, specially designed birthing bed and a glide rocker. Our concept keeps you in one cozy, comfortable setting for your labor and delivery. You will not be moved from room to room as your labor advances.

Rooms are also equipped with fetal monitoring and computer charting for bedside use. A portable ultrasound unit is always in the Labor and Delivery area, and a Jacuzzi tub may be available for use during labor.

You and your physician can decide how you will deliver your baby at Alaska Regional Hospital. If your physician works with a certified nurse midwife or a certified nurse practitioner, we can help make sure your decisions are represented.

Labor Drugs
Being aware of labor and delivery options is the best way to choose what is best for you and your baby. Childbirth classes teach you and your labor partner how best to plan for the birth of your baby.

Knowing your options ahead of time reduces anxiety and promotes a positive birth experience.

Cesarean Birth
Cesarean sections are sometimes necessary to ensure the health of the mother or baby. For just this kind of possibility, women are glad to know our Cesarean Delivery room is close to our Labor and Delivery rooms.

Physicians make all attempts to plan in advance for emergency procedures. For times when the decision must be made during labor, a specialized neonatal team is available for cesarean sections.
