Cardiovascular Procedures:

Vascular Surgery

Vascular surgery is a surgical specialty that manages diseases of the arteries and veins.  A vascular surgeon is trained in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases affecting all parts of the vascular system with the exception of the heart and brain.  Cardiothoracic surgeons manage surgical treatment of the heart and its vessels.  Neurosurgeons treat disease of the vessels of the brain.

Common indications for vascular surgery include:

Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm
Carotid Stenosis
Varicose Veins
Peripheral Arterial Occlusive Disease
Acute Limb Ischemia
Aortic Dissection

Comprehensive Care

Vascular disease can be particularly difficult to treat because the disease process involves multiple systems in the body.  Care of these patients often requires the combined efforts of several medical professionals, including cardiologists, neurologists and radiologists.
