Mark Roberts introduced as CEO at Alaska Regional Hospital
Longtime healthcare executive Mark Roberts has been named the chief executive officer at Alaska Regional Hospital, the facility announced. Roberts officially took the helm of the 250-bed hospital in June, with a strong track record across healthcare leadership roles experience from his roles in Texas, Georgia, California and overseas.
“I’m so excited about the opportunity to partner with our 1,200 colleagues and a world-class medical staff to improve the lives of Alaskans with our high-quality care,” said Roberts. “Alaska is such a unique and beautiful place, and I’m eager to learn more about our community and the ways we can raise the level of care for the families who trust us with their healthcare needs.”
Roberts’ career began in patient care, as a radiologic technologist, and he has been serving patients and communities for more than 22 years as a healthcare professional and leader. Most recently, he was the chief operating officer for Corpus Christi Medical Center, a multi-campus health system with 631 total beds on the Gulf Coast of Texas.
Roberts contributed to impressive growth at this sister HCA Healthcare facility, which is comprised of two acute care hospitals, a behavioral health hospital, three freestanding emergency departments and a cancer center. During Roberts’ tenure there, CCMC improved quality, exceeded growth targets and enhanced the colleague experience.
“Mark’s experience as both an operator and a clinician make him an ideal leader to serve the patients, colleagues and physicians in and around Anchorage,” said Evan Ray, president of HCA Healthcare’s Mountain Division. “We’re fortunate to have such an experienced and mission-driven leader join and lead our team in Alaska.”
Roberts has been with HCA Healthcare since 2011 and held roles with increasing responsibility at facilities in Texas and Georgia. He was a radiologic technologist for the United States Army and later led the imaging services program at UC Davis Medical Center, where he was also the Chief Technologist. He was also the head of clinical imaging and the catheterization lab at King Faisal Specialist Hospital in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, just before joining HCA Healthcare.
Roberts holds a Master of Health Administration degree from Webster University and is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives.
He and his wife have three children and six grandchildren, and enjoy traveling. Roberts also enjoys aviation, and in fact flew his twin engine Cessna Skymaster, affectionately called "Lovely Lene" in honor of his wife, all the way from Texas to Alaska. Roberts and a pilot friend spent 72 hours flying over 3,000 miles in mostly stormy weather, with multiple refueling stops and border crossings.
Mark will lead a revamped Alaska Regional Hospital leadership team:
