The holidays are quickly approaching and what better way to get into the holiday spirit than with a fun, easy craft? These adorable sleds are the perfect activity for kids to and they make the cutest additions to your holiday décor. You can also make these for any friends or family members who may have to spend their holiday season in the hospital. It’s a fantastic and easy way to bring some holiday cheer and make this the most wonderful time of the year for anyone!

Gather Your Supplies

For this project, you will need:

  • 6 tongue depressors
  • Hot glue gun
  • 3 matches
  • Washi tape
  • Piece of twine
  • Strong scissors or an xacto knife

Begin by slicing the edges off of the tongue depressors. Three of the sticks will be the main part of the sled, so you will want to cut two of them diagonally and then cut off about an inch of the third one. Two diagonal cuts to two of the other sticks will create the pieces for the edges of the sled. Slice off both of the ends of one of the tongue depressors to create the middle part of the sled. Then cut the tips off of all three matches.

Line up the three sticks you are using for the middle part of the sled. Add three dots of hot glue across the three sticks, towards, the bottom. Place one of the match sticks over the dots of glue. Continue with three dots along the middle, and three across the top. Place the match sticks and let cool.

Add washi tape to the three middle tongue depressors, cutting around the sides or tucking the edges in to get a nice, smooth look. You can also use craft paint or glue and glitter to decorate your sled if you prefer.

Use the hot glue gun to glue the other angled sticks to the sides of the sled.

Place a piece of coordinating washi tape along the tongue depressor that has the two ends cut off in a straight line (the top part of the sled).

Place a dot of glue on each of the side pieces of the sled, at the top. Position the twine or string on the glue dots to form the loop, creating an ornament.

Once cooled, place another dot of glue on top of the ends of the twine and set the tongue depressor with the coordinating washi tape on top, making the top of the sled and sandwiching the twine or string.
