Alaska Regional is again offering free drive-through flu shot clinics. The vaccine is the most effective way to help protect against flu and has been shown to have many benefits including reducing flu illness, hospitalization, and death.
Tuesday, October 17
Thursday, October 19
The clinics, held in the parking lot of Medical Office Building C on Alaska Regional's campus (2801 Debarr Road, 99508), are for participants nine years and older in vehicles only (no walk-ups). High dose vaccine (for people 65+) will not be available at this event.
The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recommends everyone six months and older get a flu shot every season, with rare exceptions. Vaccination is particularly important for people who are at high risk of serious complications from flu, including people 65 years and older, people of any age with certain chronic medical conditions (asthma, diabetes, or heart disease) and pregnant women.
The vaccine is quadrivalent, meaning it is designed to protect against four different influenza viruses strains (two Flu A strains and two Flu B strains), and it does not contain latex or thimerosal. There are many flu viruses, and the vaccine protects against those believed to be most common and is updated each year. You cannot get the flu from the vaccine. Received or plan to receive an updated COVID-19 shot? The CDC says there is no recommended waiting time between vaccines.
